My daughter tried to commit suiscide after taking this drug for a very short time. She has no insurance and now has a significant hospital bill. Was there a class action suit filed against Phizer for allowing this drug on the market?

I’m confused now. Is Chantix good or bad? My husband wants to quit smoking and I was hoping he could use Chantix to help him, since he’s never been able to succeed on his own, but I worry that it would make him suicidal. Obviously, the whole point of quitting smoking is to live a longer healthier life!

Yes. Chantix is a great way to quit smoking.
I think the initial reports about it causing suicides were over blown and super-hyped.
Any drug you take is going to have side effects. For that reason you should take the drug with appropriate follow-up at least once or twice a month with your doctor to make sure it is working as it should.
About 30% of people have some side effect the most common being GI upset, nausea, and some vivid dreams. Suicide is way-way-way down the list. 🙂

No Chantix is not a good way to quit smoking!!!
On Oct 23rd 2011 My 27 year old son commited suiscide. And left a Wife And Three Children behind after taking the drug for only 1 week.
So no the risk is not worth it !!!!!!!!!!
I am sorry for your loss Mike J. But I will politely disagree Mike. I believe Chantix is in fact a great way to quit.
Dr. Howell. I believe you should should do some research. I have had five years of depression and suicidal thoughts because of chantix. I never had these feelings before. I know not everyone has these feelings but a lot of people do.
Mr. Shults. I am sorry that you are not feeling well and I hope your health improves. Depression is caused by brain, genetic and other psychological factors it is a very complex disease process (here is a link if you want to read more) But it is not caused by Chantix (or varenicline).
