The Impact of Just One Cigarette?…HOOKED!

[widget id=”ad_unit-10″]ad_unit-10[/widget]So you some how managed to quit. And you are feeling great. You go out with your friends and they are smoking. You reason that you are different than you were say 6mo ago when you smoked. Today you have things figured out. Your thinking is much clearer than before. So when someone offers you a cigarette you pause for a second but then hear your self say “sure, why not.”

You have just under estimated the effect of that ONE cigarette. You have just been HOOKED again.

The hardest part of quitting is staying a quitter. Don’t fall prey to this type of thinking. Say no and walk-away fast. One cigarette is all is takes to ensnare you.

  1. I cannot tell you how true this is. I had tried to quit smoking before and I quit for about a month. I picked up a cigarette, just 1 cigarette, and I was hooked again. I am on day 46 of not smoking this time around and I have been so tempted to just have one. I know personally that it doesn’t work like that, though. This past weekend was a very tough test for me. I knew I would be around friends and I knew that I would be around alcohol. I was so tempted to smoke when other people were and also smoke while I had a drink. The few that were smoking were great and walked away from me to smoke. I did find myself going to join them as the night went on, but didn’t smoke. The smell makes me sick now, but I still crave them. I know that I will have to fight these urges for a long time, but am going to keep fighting the temptation to just have one. It’s not worth it.
