10 Reasons Why Tobacco Makes You Ugly

Are the risks of cancer, heart disease and premature death not enough to motivate you to quit? How about this – it makes you ugly and older! Smoking could damage your body, in and out. It also speeds up cell death, accelerating the aging process.

Here are some of the many reasons why quitting makes people ugly:

Smoking promotes poor skin tone. Do you want to have a firm, glowing skin without the need for cosmetic treatments? Then stop smoking now. Having loose skins under the eyes are typical to smokers, according to Dr. Bahman Guyurun from the Case Western Reserve University. Here’s the thing – there are more than 4,000 chemicals in tobacco, many of them destroy the collagen and affect the elasticity of your skin. When you smoke, you are depriving your skin cells with the nutrients they need. This is why smokers appear pale while others develop uneven skin color. Young smokers are more at risk of this ugly side effect, which in turn, impacts their confidence.

Smoking causes sagging arms and breasts. What?! Yes, it does – no matter how much you work out. Smoking doesn’t just affect the appearance of your face; it can also change your figure in a negative way. Chronic smokers often have sagging arms and breasts because they tend to lose the elasticity of their skin all over the body.

Smoking creates lines around the lips. This undesirable effect occurs because of two different reasons. The first is the so-called smoker’s pucker. Smokers use certain muscles around their lips whenever they puff cigarettes, leading to dynamic wrinkles that you will rarely find in non-smokers. Second, smoking loosens the elasticity in your skin. All these can lead to deep, noticeable lines around your lips.

Smoking causes baldness. It’s true that thinning of hair is inevitable as you advance in age, but smoking can accelerate this process. In one study, researchers in Taiwan identified smoking as a clear risk factor for baldness in men.

Smoking damages teeth and gums. Yellowish teeth are one of the most embarrassing effects of long-term smoking. But that doesn’t stop there. Smoking also causes tooth decay and cavities because the toxins in it prevent blood circulation, so the nutrients needed by your teeth could not travel properly and nourish them. Long-term smoking also leads to persistent bad breath, gum disease and other oral health problems.

Smoking leads to age spots. While age spots are often caused by too much sun exposure, smoking can also make people vulnerable to it. Smokers even in their 20s or 30s often have age spots or the blotches of darker skin color, usually found on the face and hands.

Smoking causes stains between fingers. Many people think that their hand looks sexy with a cigarette perched between their fingers. Well, not really. Cigarette doesn’t just stain the teeth, but also the hands, particularly the fingers and nails. Fortunately, stain in the hands tends to fade when the person is no longer smoking.

Smoking leads to cataracts. Even your eyes could not escape from the danger of smoking. Cataract is a condition that interferes with your physical appearance because it produces ‘cloudy’ substance all over the eyes. But the worst consequence of cataract is this – it could lead to visual problems, even blindness.

Smoking could result in Psoriasis. Recent studies suggest an association between smoking and psoriasis – a serious condition characterized by thick, scaly patches on the skin usually found on the knees, scalp, feet, elbows and hands.

Smoking robs your inner beauty. Want to look young and beautiful for as long as possible? Eat right, exercise regularly and QUIT SMOKING NOW.
