Chantix is Safe For Your Heart

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about fifty percent of chronic smokers will sooner or later die because of their habit. However, the good news is, approximately 70% of them want to quit. And using an effective treatment can increase the chance of kicking the habit for good by 2 to 3 times. Smoking cessation drugs such as Chantix (Varenicline), can actually help cut the smokers’ craving to light up and help with the withdrawal symptoms.

Nevertheless, this drug has been a center of controversy for the past years as many people claim that it poses serious health risks, including cardiovascular problems. But a new study suggests that smoking cessation drugs such Chantix Heart-health-16855943carry little risk of stroke or heart attack. Unlike earlier studies, which only considered the safety and effectiveness of these drugs and treatments, the new research compared all smoking cessation methods.

It discovered that none of the treatments (nicotine gums, patches and Varenicline) have increased the cardiovascular risks. Those taking Chantix and other smoking cessation drugs had the lowest risk of any severe cardiovascular event, while those using nicotine replacement therapy (NRTs), such as gums or patches, had somewhat increased the risk for minor side effects (e.g. irregular or rapid heartbeat).

Benefits of Using Chantix

It has no nicotine. Unlike NRTs, Chantix contains no nicotine. This means it does not worsen the addiction. This helps you deal with nicotine withdrawal symptoms much easier without the use of nicotine in any form.

It makes smoking less pleasurable. Chantix blocks the nicotine receptors in your brain. It prevents nicotine from reaching these receptors which gives you feelings of “satisfaction”. Smoking becomes less pleasurable and appealing. Thus it

is much easier for you to let go of smoking.

It is FDA approved. The Food and Drug Administration has approved the use of Chantix for 12 weeks medication which can be continued for another 12 weeks if smoking cessation was successful. However, Chantix was not yet tested for people less than 18 years of age and for pregnant women, FDA does not recommend the use of Varenicline in these groups.  It is important that you consult your doctor before using Chantix.

It is clinically proven safe and effective. While one cannot simply disregard the side effects of Chantix (e.g. nausea, gas, vomiting, constipation, disturbances in dream patterns), this only affects very small percentage of the people who are using this medication. Generally, Varenicline is safe and is proven to help smokers quit the habit of smoking.
