2 Compelling Reasons Why E-Cigarettes Won’t Help You Quit Smoking

Electronic cigarettes or “e-cigarettes” are non-tobacco products designed to look like ordinary cigarettes and deliver nicotine to its users through a vapor. With the growing popularity of e-cigarettes as a “safer” way to smoke, some smokers also believe that e-cig will eventually help them quit smoking for good. But for couple of compelling reasons, e-cigarettes are not an effective quit aid for someone trying to quit smoking.

E-cigE- Cigarettes are not NRTs and they are not designed to act as one. Vaping or smoking e-cigarettes is just another way to smoke to satisfy your cravings for nicotine. Unlike nicotine replacement therapy, e-cigs are not designed to wean off nicotine addiction, it merely offers an alternative way to get nicotine. They don’t even have medical endorsement for such purpose, and in fact they even lack government regulation. Which means the amount of nicotine and other chemicals in e-cigarettes can vary drastically which can possibly harm your health.

E-cig manufacturers would even claim that their product is a viable choice to help people quit smoking, but authorities say otherwise. E-cigarette manufacturers and marketers lack the clinical studies to back these claims.

Consider this, NRTs with all the rigorous studies and strict government policies and regulations, if not followed properly by its users, may not work well and can lead to nicotine re-addiction. What’s more with a product that is not regulated and manufactured by big tobacco companies themselves?

E-Cigarettes strengthens your smoking behavior. Studies would tell you that it is counter-productive to do or expose yourself to things that constantly remind you of something you want to get over with. The same with smoking. If you want to quit but use e-cigarette that look and work similar to regular cigarettes the harder it is for you to quit the habit of smoking.

If you really want to quit smoking you need to address two things. First, your psychological attachment to smoking, and second, your physical attachment. BOTH are impossible to achieve if you keep on exposing yourself to e-cigarettes that reminds you of smoking. Instead of weaning off the habit, it does the opposite – it re-enforces your physical and psychological attachment.

E-cigarettes do not address smoking addiction. It merely offers an alternative to smoking. Choosing the right quit aid to help you quit smoking is very much important as your determination to break free from nicotine addiction. IT is always a good decision to consult your doctor about your choices before trying anything. DO your homework too. Research and learn everything there is about quitting smoking. Try to understand what you’re about to go through.

And if you failed on your first attempt, don’t give up. Learn the things that lead to your relapse and try again. Most smokers would fail a few times before they finally succeed. It’s normal. And remember, not because it is popular or because your friend told you so, e-cigarettes will NOT help you quit smoking. Do your part if you really want to quit smoking.
