6 Tips to Succeed Quitting Smoking with Chantix

But unless you do it right, you will not be successful at quitting with Chantix. So before you proceed with this treatment, here are some tips for you:

  1. Promise yourself you will not smoke again – ever. Whatever smoking cessation method you are considering, do it not because you just want to try but because you are sick and tired of inhaling toxic substances and puffing your life away. Quitting smoking only becomes successful when you totally commit yourself to living a smoke-free life.
  2. See your doctor. Make an appointment with your doctor or with a smoking cessation expert to seek prescriptions for Chantix. This drug could not be purchased over the counter. It has to be prescribed a doctor. Remember that Chantix is not for everyone (people under 18, pregnant women, people with certain health conditions, etc) so discuss any problem you perceive with your doctor. Be open and provide as much as information needed to determine whether this drug is the best smoking cessation treatment for you.
  3. Ask your insurance company if they cover Chantix. Some insurance providers cover this medication. They might provide full or partial assistance, reimbursement, etc. Without financial assistance from your insurance company, Chantix treatment is going to cost you around $150 a month.
  4. Set a quit day. Your doctor can help you set a realistic quit date, depending on various factors like how many cigarettes you used to consume every day, how long you’ve been smoking, and so on. To make it more meaningful, you may assign an important date to your life as your quit date. For instance, you may set it on your birthday, this Christmas or this New Year.
  5.  Follow the instructions carefully. You will have to take your starter Chantix dosage for two weeks before you proceed to the usual dosage which is two pills a day. The length of taking this medication depends on your progress. Generally, you will experience relief from craving and other withdrawal symptoms after 12 weeks of use. If you are unable to quit smoking by that time, you may continue using it. But after 12 weeks of poor result, your doctor will probably introduce another smoking cessation method to you. Well, there’s a higher success rate with Chantix than Zyban and other quit smoking drugs.
  6. If symptoms persist, consult your doctor. If you experience any problems using Chantix, stop taking it and see your doctor. Side effects may include dizziness, nausea, headache, anxiety, irritation and other forms of discomfort with are also common in other smoking cessation drugs. Remember, just like other treatments, this medication has downsides too. If things are going fine, congrats – you are about to drop the bad habit soon!
