If you tried to quit smoking on your own then you are twice as likely to succeed than if you tried to using a quit smoking program.

Those who are trying to sell you their latest quit smoking widget/tape/DVD/etc. aren’t going to admit this fact. But it is true.

How do I know this? From listening to my patients and finding out how they finally DID quit smoking.

But if you don’t believe me maybe you will believe the faculty at the Department of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin. Because they did a study of quit smoking methods and found the same thing. (Link to the study here ).

Word for word here is what the study concluded:

47.5% of persons who tried to quit on their own were successful whereas only 23.6% of persons who used cessation programs succeeded.

Quitting is not easy we can all agree. But quitting smoking is not as hard as you may think either. To become an ex-smoker you have want it for yourself. You must be willing to put it on yourself to make it happen. You can’t succeed if your heart is not completely in it.

An important ingredient for YOU to becoming an ex-smoker is …really wanting it.

It may sound like a cliché but you can’t force someone to do something that they do not want to do. And I believe this is why most smoking cessation programs fail.

When YOU really want to do something YOU become an unstoppable force able to achieve whatever the goal may be.

Think about it.

To your success,
Dr. Howell
